Homemakers are planning special meals and decorating their homes in spring colors! Many are arranging for friends and family to come to dinner on that special Sunday ––Easter Sunday. Moms, dads, and grandparents are browsing for gifts for kids young and old! The only problem is –– the focus for this Easter holiday seems to be only on bunnies!! Bunnies everywhere!
I was hoping to buy a few little things to decorate my home for our family Easter celebration –– some hand towels for the guest bathroom, maybe a picture for the family room, or a banner for the front door. But all I could find at my favorite home decorating store was bunnies! It was no different when I visited a few department stores. I looked everywhere for Easter gifts for my grown children, maybe an enlightening book about the New Testament story of Easter. Something about the promise of Heaven would be nice! But I found nothing. Most importantly, I wanted children’s books for my preschool nieces and nephews about the true meaning of Easter, the Lamb of God. Sadly, there was only bunnies, bunnies, and more bunnies.
Where's the cross? Where's the resurrection? Where is JESUS?!? Where's the promise of eternal life! Bunnies have absolutely nothing to do with the Savior, who rose from the dead. Bunnies cannot give sinners hope that we too can spend eternity in Heaven with our Lord and Savior.
At our house on Easter Sunday, there will be no bunnies. We will be celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the true Lamb of God. How about you and your family? Will you be celebrating?
