Consumed with “us”

Sometimes being a wife /mother / homemaker is an all-consuming job. Lately I’ve been bombarded with ice and snow that won’t melt, a broken pipe that flooded our basement, and a smashed fender caused by "yours truly," who didn’t clean off the backup camera. Parkinson’s Disease has stolen my husband’s ability to walk so he is no longer our “fix everything Daddy.” It is my privilege and honor to be his caretaker, but I miss the years when we shared the load! I pray constantly over our grown children and grandchildren, each with their own set of challenges. Then there’s Bible Study, church, and my job. It’s a lot! I’m busy –– consumed with us!
But today, His words were clear–– “Stop! Take your eyes off you and yours. Stop and listen to Me. Pray very specifically for her the words I give you. Text her.”
So I prayed and texted this to my friend Beth whose husband is gravely ill –– “The Lord has prompted me to pray specifically for you … that you can be brave and courageous on these hard days, and that you and your husband can have special moments together even in the midst of illness and treatments. Isaiah 41:10”
Beth responded–– “Thank you, dear friend. Today he feels a little better and we actually took a slow stroll in our neighborhood with this nice sun shining on the snow! It was a hard week, but today I feel joy in my spirit and a renewed knowing that God is holding us!”
Beth’s words made me feel something I wasn’t feeling on my own––great joy and a renewed knowing that God is holding my family!
Thank you, Lord, for the blessings of Christian sisterhood. Thank you, Lord, that you won’t allow me to stay consumed with us!
