Community

My 1953 Websters New Collegiate Dictionary gives several definitions for the word "community." Over these past weeks, I've had the privilege to learn firsthand this defintion of community: "common character; likeness."
It began with an unexpected fall at Christmas, surgery, and eleven days in a local hospital. My church community responded immediately. They demonstrated the "common character and likeness" of Christ in all they did and continue to do. During my hospital stay, I received numerous prayers, texts, calls, cards, visits, and even a Christmas tree and ornaments! God uses our actions and the actions of others to show the beauty of who He is.
The Lord gave me many opportunities to share my faith. A simple gift of a circle chain with different scripture verses inside each circle was a beautiful instrument for sharing the Gospel with others. I've been inspired by these scripture verses. I hope you will be too.
But I trust in you, O Lord; I say,“You are my God, My times are in your hand." (Psalm 31:14-15)
I am He. I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. (Isaiah 46:4)
“Nonetheless, the Lord is waiting to be merciful to you, and will rise up to show you compassion….Happy are all who wait for him.” (Isaiah 30:18)
This experience continues to be very humbling. My need for help from others is real. The love of Christ continues to be demonstrated every day as my church community provides meals, transport, and Christ’s love. They are the hands and feet of Jesus.
In life sometimes we're privileged to serve others in community and be the "likeness of Christ." And they are indeed beautiful. But I've learned not to run from the times when we are weak and need that community. In those times God teaches us the deepest lessons.
